Book drive in your neighborhood
This is a fun thing that a resident is using! It’s Book Driver, a service to help find good homes for books. If residents are interested in participating in our book drive, let us know. We will be there next on April 11th and 12th
“(City name) is just the type of vibrant community that loves to give away books,” Johnson said
All you have to do is sign up using our web form on our website, www.bookdriver.net and leave the books on the front porch that morning.
“This is a fun thing that residents are using. We’ve been around over five years now and the momentum around finding good homes for books is growing,” said Matt Johnson, Book Driver found.
“There are about a million books that got thrown away yesterday so we need to get on this,” Johnson said.

Book Driver was started in 2013 in Colorado offering a free book pickup for library patrons and expanded from there. Over 100,000 books are processed per year. Book Driver uses a peer-to-peer model to reduce carbon footprint and they give away over 80,000 books to 30 organizations.
“We don’t focus on any one organization but our idea is more about growing the points of distribution in our model. Books will end up in the hands of someone who can do something with them in a network model such as ours. That could be an individual or organization. That’s where communities get changed by this process.”  Johnson said.
People find Book Driver online typically, when they have books that they aren’t sure what to do with but don’t want to throw them away. “We’ve been serving this neighborhood since we started, ” Johnson said.
